Lost Spring Photos

I'm not sure exactly when these photos were taken, but one of the nice days in Spring, we drove out to Preston to hike the Old Bus Trail.  Its a nice perfect hike for the little kids to do.  Its beautiful and we get to hike by an old burned out bus.  So fun.

Emma's Dance Recital

Emma's dance recital this year was so fun.  She danced in both performances, one for ballet and one for hip hop.  She loved her costume and called it her "princess dress".  For hip hop, she got to decorate a mask with glitter and feathers and then did a fun dance.  We are so proud of her.  We love to see her on stage, and while she is a little shy about performing still, its so fun to watch her dance.

Everyone who came to watch Emma dance!

Emma's Kindergarten Graduation

We can't believe Emma is done with Kindergarten.  Even harder to believe is that she will go to school next year for a full day.  It seems weird that my sweet little girl will be gone from home 7+ hours a day.  She still seems to little for that.

She did a wonderful job in Kindergarten this year.  She made lots of friends, and loved her teacher Mrs. Duke.  She learned so much about reading, writing, music and art.  She misses school already and is working in a workbook everyday this summer.

We all went to see her little graduation ceremony and they had a little reception in the classroom afterwards, with cake and juice.  She'll be graduating in the class of 2024.  Seems very weird.

Here are some things about Emma this year:
  • Favorites!
    • food:  "pancakes"
    • color: "purple, pink and red"
    • toy:  "My innotab"
    • game:  "Uno Spin"
    • cartoon:  "My little Pony".
    • movie:  "Brave"
  • I really like to wear... "my flower shirt and my pink pants".
  • When I grow up I want to be... "A ballet teacher."
  • I would describe myself as.... "I am a dancer, cause I dance alot".
  • I wish... "that I had a pet bird, a parakeet".
  • My favorite memory... "going to Chuck-E-Cheese.  Cause it had so much tickets.  So much games.  So much quarters".
  • I love it when... "my brother Levi laughs at me".
  • The best thing about me is... "that I'm a good ballet dancer and hip hop dancer".
  • When I get older I want to ... "babysit Levi and Henry".
  • I really look up to... "be like Savannah.  Because I want to learn to take care of birds like her".
  • I want to practice... "babysitting Levi and Henry all by myself with no grown up around".

A Change

I'm going to be closing my blog to outside viewers soon, including family & friends.

What began as a blog to communicate with loved ones, has changed.  It has really become my journal.  No one blogs anymore, and no one leaves comments, which I am fine with.  However, the distraction of my "audience" remains as I try to write posts for this blog.  I wonder who checks it, what they'll think of what I post, instead of just recording our lives in the family journal I want it to be.  I write it about and for our little family. At the end of each year, I create a photo book and include these blog posts, so it literally becomes our family journal.

Not many people out there have their private journals open for family and friends to read as they come to visit. This "audience" sometimes causes a hesistation in what I post.  I want to eliminate that.  I want to write about every facet of our lives, about our relationships, love, faith, routines, work and anything and everything else that I can think of.  And all this can only be truly understood within the context of our little family.  I want to write alot more and in order to do that I can't worry about who might be reading it.

For example, today I had a moment of pure joy.  It was simple, sweet happiness.  We had driven to Bellevue to meet Shane for dinner and had a great time together.  After helping me get the kids in the car, Shane and I talked just a moment in the parking lot about his work, his dirty shirt, and the kids.  We laughed and he gave me a big kiss and a huge bear hug.  We said goodbye and then got in our cars and drove off.  Shane was in one lane, and we were in the other.  The kids yelling "Bye Daddy" out the window to him as he drove back to work.  Then on the way home, all three kids were belly laughing together in the backseat.  Even Levi.  Emma was making them all laugh by making funny noises into an empty water bottle.  I was struck with how blessed I am.  It was truly one of the most joyful moments of my life.  I feel so lucky to have my sweet children, and my Shane.  In this crazy world, we have this sweet little life that I adore.  We came home and I wanted to write it down to remember that powerful moment.  As I started to blog, I thought..."well, what if people think I'm being a bit braggy, our life isn't perfect..." and that moment of pure joy was tainted.  Worrying about what others might think now changed how I felt about that sweet memory.

So, I'm done.  But, this journal will continue and I'm excited for what it will become to us.

And just for the record, I do think our life is Perfect.  Its a crazy, busy, problematic, challenged filled life, that constantly wears me down to nothing and then fills me back up again with joy, and it is absolutely Perfect to me.

So if you want to stay connected, you can find me on facebook.  I often post pictures of us and little bits about our adventures.  I'm always an email or phone call away, or better yet a visit, where I'll gladly let you look at our family journals.  For some reason the in-home sharing of a family journal is different that the blogging set-up I have going on here.

See you on the internets. :)

And now he has a cold...

Now that Henry's pink eye has disappeared for the most part (hooray!), he has had a fever and a cough today.  Poor guy just can't catch a break.  He's been grumpy the past couple days and hasn't had much of an apetite.  Tonight at bedtime, he wouldn't eat more than a bit or two of dinner, and then just wanted his milk.  So we gave him some medicine and sent him to bed at 7:00.

About 8:30, he wandered out, happy as a clam.  The medicine must have kicked in. :)  He had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and sat on Shane's lap sipping Pepsi and watching "Swamp Loggers" on TV with Shane.  I'm so glad he's feeling better, and even happier that he finally ate something.  I figure we could let him stay up a little later tonight, since he was finally acting like his normal happy self.  I hope he has a good night tonight and that he wakes up in the morning feeling even better.

The Pink Eye Family Adventures

So... Emma's pink eye has been gone since Monday, however, the boys pink eye didn't show up until Thursday!  This has not been a fun week.  We thought we were out of the blue and then both Levi and Henry got it bad.  Especially Levi.  I finally had to take him in for some prescription eye drops to help his poor little eyes get better.  He's now at about 98%.  Henry should be done with his by tomorrow.  Poor guys.  They aren't in pain, but their eyes get really goopy and their eyelids stick together in the morning.

While we've been essentially under quarantine, so no one else gets sick, we couldn't stand to stay home all day today when it was so beautiful.  So we decided to drive up to Deception Pass and throw rocks in the water for a bit.  It was so beautiful, and while Henry was a bit grumpy, we all had a wonderful time together.  We ate snacks, threw rocks and enjoyed the fresh sea air.  Since we couldn't go to church today, this was an awesome second choice.  Hopefully the rest of the pink eye will be gone soon.  We were supposed to go camping this weekend, but due to the illnesses, we canceled.  We've been having a "camp-in" and still eating all our camp food.  Last night we had corndogs and s'mores.  Today we tried (& failed) with tin-foil dinners, due to a failed attempt at "carbecue"  (don't ask) and now we'll have our dutch oven cake tomorrow.  Its been an unconventional, but very fun and fulfilling weekend with family.
